BANYUWANGI - The Banyuwangi joint SAR team, East Java, found two victims of a fishing boat sinking in a state of death. Thus, the death toll is four people and the other three victims are still being searched.
Banyuwangi SAR Post Coordinator Wahyu Setia Budi explained that initially two victims died and five others were in search after the Mekar Jaya Ship with 27 crew members were hit by waves at Grajagan Beach, Grajagan Village, Purwoharjo District, at around 02.30 WIB in the morning.
"The joint SAR team assisted by fishermen also found two victims who died. Thus, there were four people who died, while three people were declared missing and three are still searching," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 6.
SAR Banyuwangi conducted a search for three victims who so far have not been found using a rubber boat combing around the location of the sinking of the fishing boat.
"If the fishing boat capsized and had difficulty evacuating. We are currently focusing on searching for three victims," said Wahyu.
The Mekar Jaya ship with 27 crew members was hit by waves and capsized while trying to dock to the Port of Grajagan.
20 crew members survived after passing fishing boats provided assistance.
Four victims died, namely Sumarno (65), a resident of Tembok Rejo Village, Muncar District, Sukar (nahhoda), a resident of Purwoharjo District, Toso (54) from Srono District, and Wakik from Jember.
Meanwhile, the victim was declared missing and is still being searched, namely, Tolib, Dorik and To.
