Regarding The Implementation Of The 5PC Myanmar Conflict, President Jokowi: For The Sake Of ASEAN's Interest, We Must Dare To Evaluate Ourselves

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo invited ASEAN members to dare to evaluate themselves and discuss problems openly, while leading the ASEAN 43rd Summit Retreat Session with a focus on reviewing the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Regarding the implementation of the 5PC, President Jokowi reminded that 5PC is a collective ASEAN effort as a family, which ASEAN leaders have agreed in Jakarta on April 24, 2021.

"And the 5PC will remain the main guideline for ASEAN," said President Jokowi when opening the Retreat Session, Tuesday, September 5.

President Jokowi explained, Indonesia has carried out more than 145 engagements in a very intensive manner with 70 stakeholders over the past nine months.

"Indonesia sees that trust has begun to emerge between one stakeholder and another, except with the military junta," said President Jokowi.

"This is the time ASEAN continues to encourage inclusive national dialogue, as the key to solving the Myanmar-signed and Myanmar-led political crises," said President Jokowi.

He added that ASEAN humanitarian assistance is still being carried out through the AHA Center. However, the process carried out is still very long.

"Therefore, in the interest of the ASEAN family, we must dare to evaluate ourselves, discuss problems openly and find solutions together. We need more tactical and extraordinary efforts to implement 5PC.

In addition to the 5PC implementation review, the Retreat Session also discussed Indo-Pacific cooperation.

"ASEAN-Indo Pacific Forum as a concrete form of ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific has attracted a lot of interest, both from the government and the private sector. I hope the continuity of AOIP's implementation can be maintained," concluded President Jokowi.
