Bamsoet: KKB Must Be Stopped With A Hard Attitude, Not A Discussion

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) strongly condemns the murder of Papuan humanitarian activist Michelle Kurisi Doga by armed criminal groups (KKB) in Kolawa District, Lanny Jaya Regency, Papua Mountains Province.

"The KKB action again claimed lives. This time Papuan humanitarian activist Michelle Kurisi Doga who was a victim. The KKB's continued murder and terror must be stopped with a strong and firm attitude by the security forces, not by discussion. Considering the peaceful approach that has been sought so far has always been rejected by the KKB," said Bamsoet, quoting Antara, Sunday, September 3.

The chairman of the 20th DPR RI and the former Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI for Law, Human Rights and Security emphasized that the conflict situation in Papua, especially in mountainous areas, cannot be seen as simple.

A number of actions on behalf of humanity did not escape the brutal response of the KKB. Some time before, a number of health workers and health centers who officially carried out their duties and obligations were treated inhumanely.

"The brutal incident experienced by Michelle further emphasized that the KKB openly wants to show its existence. This existence is not enough only through legitimacy as terrorists who spread terror and fear of civilians, but also to the security forces. This is an increasingly steep challenge for the security forces, especially the TNI and Polri to always prepare and take comprehensive steps," said Bamsoet.

Furthermore, Bamsoet explained, the maneuver of the TNI and Polri to 'encourage' the armed criminal movement which was masterminded by Papuan terrorists on behalf of anything, was no longer enough with a persuasive approach.

It is time for the TNI and Polri and all the power of the state to unite ranks and forces to make Papua's territory the 'power' of the KKB and other groups, as the 'enemy of the state' region.

"The announcement is no longer just rhetoric. But concrete actions are legitimized by the Papuan state and people who have been harboring concerns and fear due to KKB violence," said Bamsoet.

He also invited all the nation's children to open their eyes and minds, that Papua is in need of more attention. Various dialogical efforts that have been proposed so far have not received a good response from the KKB and these criminal groups.

"All elements of the state and society as well as the people of Indonesia must give full support to whatever actions taken by the TNI and Polri. So far, it aims to ground the rioters of security and trouble humanity in the Land of Papua," he concluded.
