During September, Denpasar Health Office "Fogging" ULV To Prevent Dengue Fever Cases

DENPASAR - During September 2023 to prevent cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in a sustainable manner, the Denpasar City Health Office, Bali, carried out fogging activities with a bulk ULV (ultra low volume) engine.

"This activity is routinely carried out twice a year. The first period was last April, and the second period was in September," said Denpasar City Health Office Head Dr. Anak Agung Ayu Agung Candrawati, in Denpasar, Saturday.

Fogging ULV will take place from September 1-6, 2023 and spread over several locations in Denpasar City. This is a measure to anticipate the spread of dengue fever in Denpasar City.

According to Candrawati, dengue cases tend to increase during the rainy season. Therefore, during the dry season it is the right time to break the chain of transmission of dengue mosquitoes.

Previously, the Denpasar City Health Office recorded that dengue cases in Denpasar City from January to mid-August 2023 had reached 1,278 cases. This number has almost doubled compared to 2022 for the same period of 754 cases.

In addition to fogging ULV, he continued, the Denpasar City Government is now also adapting Wolbachia's innovation technology.

This technology itself, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, September 2, is carried out by moving Wolbachia bacteria into Aedes Aegypti mosquito eggs. Bacteria that grow naturally in insects can paralyze various viruses including dengue viruses.

"Regarding Wolbachia's innovation, we will schedule a soft release in mid-September 2023 in the Kelod etching area, West Denpasar, and will be followed by all locuses in Denpasar City in November 2023," said Candrawati.

He hopes that with the combination of the two patterns, namely fogging ULV and the innovation of wolbachia mosquitoes, they will be able to control the case of dengue fever in Denpasar City.
