JAKARTA - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) welcomes the joining of the National Awakening Party (PKB) in the Coalition for Amendments to Unity (KPP) which carries Anies Rasyid Baswedan as a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu said the joining of PKB to KPP would further strengthen enthusiasm to win Anies to become the 8th president of the Republic of Indonesia.
"God willing, we are increasingly optimistic about winning the 2024 presidential election, to create a just, prosperous and dignified Indonesia," said Syaikhu at a press conference at the PKS DPP Office, South Jakarta, Saturday, September 2.
PKS, continued Syaikhu, also respects the decisions of the NasDem Party and PKB which have declared the Anies-Cak Imin pair as presidential and vice presidential candidates who will run in the 2024 presidential election.
However, said Syaikhu, PKS will still bring the name of PKB General Chair Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin to be discussed and determined as a vice presidential candidate (cawapres) whose party is promoted to the Shura Council.

Referring to the PKS Articles of Association, Syaikhu emphasized that the authority to determine presidential and vice-presidential candidates lies with the Syuro Council as the party's highest deliberation panel consisting of representatives of PKS members from all over Indonesia.
Where, in the results of the 8th Shura Council deliberation, PKS has appointed Anies Rasyid Baswedan as a candidate for presidential candidate promoted by PKS.
"As for the recommendation of the name Mr. Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar as a candidate for vice president, God willing, it will be proposed to discuss it at the deliberation of the Prosperous Justice Party Syuro Council," said Syaikhu.
Syaikhu also apologized for not being able to attend the Anies-Cak Imin (Amin) declaration event as a presidential and vice presidential candidate from KPP.
However, Syaikhu admitted that he had contacted the General Chairperson of the PKB to confirm the invitation letter given to PKS.
"But I called (Cak Imin), thank you for the letter that was given, we're just sorry we couldn't attend the event in Surabaya," he said.
Syaikhu also revealed that PKS understands and respects the decision of the Democratic Party which has declared its exit from the Coalition for Change to Unity, as well as revoking support for Anies Baswedan's candidacy as a candidate for 2024 presidential candidate.
"Indeed, we still really hope that the Democratic Party can remain in the Coalition for Amendments to Unity and carry Anies Rasyid Baswedan as reading the president of the Republic of Indonesia," said Syaikhu.
