Jokowi Reaffirms Presidential Position 3 Periods Banned By Constitution

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo emphasized that three-term presidential positions are not allowed by the constitution.

This was conveyed by Jokowi while attending the Opening of Mahasabha XIII Hindu Dharma Indonesia Student Association (KMHDI) 2023 in Palu City, Central Sulawesi.

Jokowi initially heard the hope of a student participating in Mahasabha KMHDI named Tirsya Riyani who hoped that President Widodo could serve three terms.

On that occasion, Tirsya was chosen to come forward to answer Jokowi's question about "deep in the eyes of the heart." After advancing to the stage, the student apparently has not prepared an answer to President Jokowi's question.

"Earlier, what were you pointing at like this?" asked President Jokowi when he found out that Tirsya had not prepared an answer.

"I just want to be close to this," said the President as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 30.

Tirsya then said that he really wanted to be close to President Jokowi. He also thanked Jokowi for being a good leader for the nation.

He then expressed hope that President Jokowi could serve three terms.

"I want to say thank you, Mr. President, who is so good for the Indonesian nation. I am very impressed and very proud, if possible, sir, you can become president for three terms," hoped Tirsya.

Hearing this answer, President Widodo stated that it was not allowed by the constitution.

"That's not allowed in the constitution," said Jokowi.

The President then asked a question "deep in the eyes of the heart" to another student named Kadek Febri.

This time, the question that President Jokowi had previously asked repeatedly at various meetings was answered.

"If I thought earlier, my mother was short because my mother was far away. But, if I think scientific, the closest thing to the heart is bile, but I see it is far away," replied Kadek Febri.

The President also said that the answer to "mother" was the correct answer. However, what she meant was the second answer, namely bile.

"The answer was correct, mother. But, what I mean is not that answer. But, what is true is number two, bile. I brought this to several meetings now answered by Kadek. So, it has been answered," said the President.

KadekFebri also received a bicycle gift from President Jokowi.
