South Sulawesi Prepares IDR 13.57 Billion To Restore Fishery Marine Sector

MAKASSAR - The Provincial Government of South Sulawesi (Sulsel) has prepared a budget of more than Rp13.57 billion for economic recovery in the marine and fisheries sector.

Head of the South Sulawesi Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service Muhammad Ilyas said nationally the government allocated a budget for economic recovery, especially for fishing communities in South Sulawesi.

"This budget allocation for 2023 is IDR 13.57 billion, consisting of various assistance in encouraging the activities of South Sulawesi fishermen," said Ilyas, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 29.

Ilyas said that this assistance was given to a number of districts/cities, including the assistance of fishing boats handed over by the Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman to a group of fishermen from Barru Regency.

This fishing boat is one of the 18 fishing boats that have been prepared by the South Sulawesi Provincial Government with a budget of more than IDR 7.3 billion in 2023. Dozens of these ships will be distributed to a number of districts/cities in South Sulawesi, namely 15 units with a cargo of 5 GT worth IDR 3.15 billion which will be distributed in Luwu, Selayar, Jeneponto, Takalar, Pangkep, North Luwu, Maros, Bone, and Barru Regencies.

Furthermore, two units of ships with a capacity of 10 GT worth IDR 1.5 billion will be handed over to the Government of Bulukumba Regency and Sinjai for a group of tuna fishing fishermen.

"We provide this assistance regularly every year in the last few years. Last year we also budgeted, but this year the budget is bigger," said Ilyas.

In 2022, the South Sulawesi Provincial Government will spend a budget of IDR 1.94 billion with a total of 9 ships, 5 of which are fisheries vessels with a capacity of 5 GT.
