JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has imposed administrative sanctions on 11 industries that are a source of air pollution in Jabodetabek and its surroundings.

"What was done yesterday until August 24 and has been subject to administrative sanctions, namely 11 entities," said LHK Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 28.

He said the imposition of sanctions was a follow-up to law enforcement through the deployment of 100 team members to 351 industries, including a Steam Power Plant (PLTD) and a Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) suspected of being a source of air polluting.

A total of 11 industries were given administrative sanctions engaged in coal stocks, metal smelters, paper factories, and charcoal.

"This means that based on the results of the examination, it looks at what things are not in accordance with the standards and they must fulfill it," he said.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry will also continue the identification process through the Air Pollution Standard Index Observation (ISPU) of around 161 industries in six nearby locations of observers at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

The locations in question include 120 business units in Sumur Batu and Bantargebang sub-districts, Bekasi City. 10 business units in the Lubang Buaya area, East Jakarta.

A total of seven other business units in Tangerang, 15 business units in South Tangerang, and 10 business units in Bogor.

"We will continue these steps in the next 4 to 5 weeks for as many as I have reported earlier," he said.

"One form of air pollution involving the industry in the Lubang Buaya area is in the form of an absorbent business or active charcoal production relying on burning coconut shells or hard wood," said Siti Nurbaya added.

"The wood is burned and then washed again using acid, then burned again because it has high absorption power and the absorptive price is expensive if exported because it can be used for drugs," he said.

In addition, said Siti, there is also a steel industry, cement as well as cement, to feed.
