Jokowi Appoints Sandiaga Uno To Replace Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno was appointed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Ad Interim, replacing Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who was serving abroad.

This is stated in Letter Number B-795/M/D-3/AN.00.03/08/2023 concerning the Appointment of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Ad Interim, which was signed by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno dated August 18, 2023, Sunday, August 20.

"With regard to the letter from the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment number B-3432/MENKO/RT.01.00/VIII/2023 dated August 16, 2023, regarding the Request for Office Travel Permits to Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa dated 19 to August 26, 2023 as well as the Proposal of the Minister of Ad Interim, we respectfully inform you that the President is pleased to appoint the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Ad Interim during the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment to travel abroad." Thus the writing stated in the letter, as stated by VOI quoting from Antara, Sunday evening, August 20.

For information, Coordinating Minister Luhut is currently accompanying President Joko Widodo to visit a number of countries in Africa.

President Joko Widodo made a series of visits to a number of countries in the African region, namely Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa, for 20-25 August 2023.

This visit is Jokowi's first visit to the African region, which aims to strengthen solidarity among global southern countries.

Apart from Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Participating in the visit was Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Head of State Protocol Andy Rachmianto, Presidential Military Secretary Admiral TNI Hersan, Commander of Paspampres Major General TNI Rafael Granada Baay, and Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has already left for Africa to prepare for the President's visit.

The President had previously appointed Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian as Foreign Minister Ad Interim while Foreign Minister Retno served in Africa.
