JAKARTA - The Jayapura Immigration Office is currently detaining Zhang Qing alias Muhamad Benny, a Chinese national because he does not have immigration documents. The 'miracle' concerned has lived in Indonesia for more than 10 years.

Head of the Jayapura Immigration Office, Darwanto, accompanied by the Head of Immigration Division at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Novianto Sulastono, said Zhang was secured on December 4, 2020.

"Apart from not having immigration documents and the person concerned, he also already has various documents of Indonesian citizen evidence, such as ID cards and family cards," said Darwanto as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 2.

He added that he previously had an KTP that was made in 2 areas, namely DKI Jakarta with a validity period until 2009 and Jayapura City in 2020.

Zhang's arrest began when he became a sponsor through PT.Harapan Jaya in Abe Pantai. At that time, the officers were suspicious because Mr. Zhang took a woman and 2 small children with him.

The officers also tracked sponsor companies. As a result, it turned out that the company did not exist because the address listed was filled in by the grocery store. The woman who was found turned out to be Zhang's wife and daughter. The three of them were then deported in November 2020 for over-staying.

With this suspicion, officers secured Mr. Zhang and confiscated various documents in his possession in the form of an KTP, family card and photocopies of his Chinese passport and other documents, said Darwanto.

"We will proceed to court and Zhang is detained at Kanim Jayapura," said Darwanto.

Head of Immigration Division of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Papua Novianto Sulastono said that by increasing his case to investigation, Zhang will be subject to article 119 letter C. "Zhang will be prosecuted to court," said Sulastono.
