JAKARTA - Hundreds of prisoners or correctional inmates (WBP) in Detention Centers (Rutan) and Correctional Institutions (Lapas) throughout Jakarta received free remission during the celebration of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day, Thursday, August 17.
"There are 437 people who received free remission in Jakarta, today they are immediately released. Meanwhile, there are 6 inmates at the Jakarta Narcotics Prison who received free remission today," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ibnu Chuldun to reporters, Thursday, August 17.
Ibnu said the highest number of granting remissions to WBP was at the Jakarta Narcotics Prison.
"The largest number of inmates receiving remissions is the Jakarta Narcotics Prison, which is 2752 people. This is the largest. This means that the level of discipline, level of obedience, level of seriousness of the inmates in the Jakarta Narcotics Prison in participating in the coaching program is very large," he said.
The number of inmates in the Jakarta Narcotics Prison is 3000 inmates. Of that number, 2752 inmates received remission.
Meanwhile, the total remission given to inmates in Jakarta is 10,322 prisoners. Of that number, 10,265 prisoners and children have been proposed as a whole.
"Currently, the total number of prisoners and children proposed is 10,322 people. However, until this morning, 10,265 new decrees have been issued, meaning that it has reached 98 percent more. Only 57 prisoners, maybe later in the afternoon the remission decree will be down. Then we will reach 100 percent remission," he said.
Meanwhile, based on data from the total inmates in Jakarta, there are 15,816 prisoners. This means that out of 15,816 people who meet administrative and substantive requirements, only 10,322 people are proposed to receive remission.
"This data is not comparable to the ability of our prison and detention capacity in Jakarta. With a capacity of only 5963 people, it is now inhabited by 15,816 people, meaning 3 times", he said.
Meanwhile, from Viny Aurelia (22), one of the convicts of the Pondok Bambu Detention Center, she is very grateful for the granting of remissions for the celebration of August 17. "I am very grateful, getting remission on August 17th. I want to be a better society in the future. Get a remission for 3 months, this is the first time. The verdict has been given 3 years. I have served 20 months in prison," he said.
