JAKARTA - Chairman of the Maluku DPRD Benhur G Watubun stated that the use of traditional clothing typical of the Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the state event of the 2023 MPR Annual Session was a matter of pride for the Maluku people. "We as members of the provincial DPRD together with the local government and the Maluku people, especially from the KKT, really appreciate the use of traditional clothing in this area and even at the end of their speech, the head of state stated that we wear traditional clothes from Tanimbar, Maluku Province," said Maluku DPRD Chairman Benhur G. Watubun in Ambon, Thursday, August 17. Traditional clothes typical of the Tanimbar people are woven fabrics by using various motifs such as plants, humans, boats or animals and smeared in dye solutions processed from natural ingredients. Then these traditional clothes are more dominant for women's activities and are usually used for certain activities such as marriage, people dying, or traditional ceremonies for the inauguration of village heads. According to Benhur, with President Jokowi wearing traditional Tanimbar clothes in official state events like this also raises Maluku's name to the national stage.

Budaya lokal Maluku diangkat oleh Presiden Jokowi dalam Sidang Tahunan MPR RI dan sidang bersama DPR RI dan DPD RI tahun 2023 harus dimaknai sebagai sebuah penghargaan negara terhadap budaya lokal daerah ini di tingkat nasional.Menurut dia lagi, cara berbusana kepala negara pada acara kenegaraan dengan menggunakan pakaian adat khas Tanimbar membuktikan bahwa Presiden Jokowi begitu mencintai rakyat Maluku."Apresiasi yang tinggi untuk Presiden RI. Suatu kehormatan bagi rakyat Maluku karena beliau memakai pakaian adat Tanimbar di Provinsi Maluku dalam sidang gabungan tiga lembaga besar," kata Benhur, dikutip Antara.
