1,573 Prisoners In Bangka Belitung Proposed To Receive Remission For The 78th Anniversary Of The Republic Of Indonesia

The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Bangka Belitung Islands Province proposed 1,573 correctional inmates (WBP) to receive general remission or reduced sentences on the 78th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2023.

"We hope that the granting of remissions can motivate prisoners to continue to realize their mistakes by improving themselves and participating in coaching programs with good results," said Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Babel Harun Sulianto as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, August 13.

Head of the Correctional Division (Kadivpas) of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Babel, Sahata Marlen Situngkir, said that his party proposed a number of inmates to obtain remissions for the Indonesian Independence Day from seven prisons and detention centers in the Babel Islands.

"Currently, the number of prisons and detention centers in Babylon is 2,478 people consisting of 1,939 prisoners and 539 prisoners," he said.

He stated that the most proposed recipients of remission came from the Class IIA Pangkalpinang Narcotics Prison as many as 647 people, the Class IIB Sungailiat 319 prison, and the Class IIA Pangkalpinang 275 prison.

In addition, the Tanjungpandan Class II B Prison proposed 117 people, Muntok Class IIB Detention Center 116 people, Pangkalpinang Women's Prison 77 people, and Pangkalpinang Class II LPKA 22 people.

"A total of 17 recipients of remission are proposed to be immediately released," he said.

According to him, the requirements for prisoners to be included in the list of proposals for remission recipients are those who have served a criminal period in prisons, detention centers of more than 6 months from August 17, 2023.

In addition, the requirements for prisoners who can be granted remissions have never committed violations while serving a crime are not currently serving disciplinary sentences in the last 6 months starting before the date of granting remission, and have participated in coaching programs organized by prisons and detention centers with good predicates.

"This general mission can be given as many as 1 to 6 months in accordance with the criminal sentence that has been served by the inmates," he said.
