CILACAP Two teenagers in Cilacap managed to steal a number of valuable objects from residents' houses in Kroya District, Cilacap, Central Java by pretending to be government employees. The two perpetrators with the initials YS (25) and JM (25) managed to enter the residents' houses on the grounds that they wanted to collect data, check gas cylinder regulators, and provide assistance.

Cilacap Police Chief Kombes Fannky Ani Sugiharto through the Head of Public Relations of the Cilacap Police, Iptu Gatot Tri Hartanto, said the modus operandi was used by the perpetrators to trick their victims and approach places that were considered vulnerable to crimes.

"The two perpetrators came to the victim's house by offering to repair the gas regulator and pretending to record that the victim received assistance. Then one of the perpetrators invited the victim to check the gas cylinder regulator in the kitchen and when the victim was careless, another perpetrator took the victim's valuables that were at home, such as gold rings, cellphones and valuables that could be put into the perpetrator's bag "explained Gatot in a written statement, Thursday, August 10.

Gatot also said that in the last few months the two perpetrators had succeeded in committing several thefts in Cilacap, Banyumas, Banjarnegara, Purbalingga, and Brebes Regencies, in Cilacap Regency. They have launched their actions in 18 victims' houses.

Armed with information from the victims, the police managed to track down and arrest the perpetrators. During the arrest, Saturday, August 5, the police confiscated various stolen evidence and the vehicle used by the perpetrator.

The perpetrators have now been detained for further investigation. If found guilty of committing a criminal act of theft as stipulated in Article 363 of the Criminal Code, the perpetrator can be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 7 (seven) years.
