Indonesian Scouts In South Korea's Jambore To Be Sentipated By Typhoon Khanun

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the government would move Indonesian scouters who were following the World Jambore in Saemangeum, South Korea, to anticipate hurricane weather which is expected to approach the region on August 9-10, 2023.

"There are new plans that have been made, and our children, according to the plan, will begin moving tomorrow. Tomorrow around noon and evening," said Retno at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 7.

Retno said she had communicated twice with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) team in South Korea.

According to information obtained by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there is an estimate that the typhoon will approach the location of the World Jambore. Therefore, the Indonesian Embassy Team (KBRI) in South Korea will fully assist efforts to move Indonesian scouters.

"So our team has moved quickly, both from the Scouts themselves, which of course is very much helped by our Indonesian Embassy team," he said.

Retno asked for prayers for the process of moving Indonesian Scouts to run smoothly and safely. He also ensured that the Indonesian Scout delegation would not be repatriated, but only be moved to anticipate bad weather.

The Indonesian Embassy in South Korea, said Retno, is coordinating with local authorities for the location that is the destination for the transfer of Indonesian Scouts.

As of Sunday (6/8), information from the delegation of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul stated that as many as 1,500 scouters were in good condition. However, it is acknowledged that Jambore Dunia faces very hot weather challenges from time to time.

The World Scout Jambore, which is held every four years, is attended by around 43,000 young people from 158 countries this year. In 2023, the Jambore World participants in South Korea will face the challenge of hot weather with temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius and high humidity.
