SURABAYA - Former Head of the East Java Education Office, Saiful Rachman, is a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the 2018 East Java Provincial Government's special allocation fund (DAK) worth Rp. 16.2 billion.

Head of the Legal Information Section of the East Java High Prosecutor's Office, Windhu Sugiarto, explained that the Kadindik during the East Java Governor Soekarwo era was suspected of being involved in alleged budget corruption for the construction of student practice rooms.

"The Rp16.3 billion DAK in 2018 was used to build student practice rooms, roof construction and procurement of furniture or furniture equipment in 60 schools in East Java. However, the project was not implemented properly. The Rp16.2 billion budget was not fully realized. There was an unworked development," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 2.

Windhu revealed the potential loss to the state after an audit was carried out by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) of around Rp. 8.2 billion.

In the case investigated by the East Java Regional Police, the East Java Regional Police also named another suspect, namely Eny Rhosidah, who serves as the principal of a private vocational high school (SMK) in Jombang Regency.

According to Windhu, the two suspects and their evidence have been transferred to the Surabaya District Attorney's Office (phase two delegation).

"The suspects Saiful and Eny and the evidence were brought by East Java Police investigators to the Surabaya Kejari Office at around 12.00 WIB this afternoon," he said.

After undergoing a series of examinations at the Surabaya Prosecutor's Office, the two suspects were escorted to the Class 1 Surabaya State Detention Center (Rutan) for the East Java Prosecutor's Office on Jalan Ahmad Yani Surabaya.

The suspects Saiful and Eny were charged with Article 2 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.

"We will immediately delegate it to the Surabaya Corruption Court for trial if all examinations and filings have been declared perfect or P21," added Windhu Sugiarto.
