Examination Has Not Been Completed, Panji Gumilang Stays At The Bareskrim Detention Center

JAKARTA - The head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Panji Gumilang, was kept in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police. This is because the investigation process as a suspect in the alleged blasphemy case has not been completed.

"The person concerned was entrusted to the Criminal Investigation Unit," said Director of General Crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency Brigadier General Djuhandani Rahardjo Puro when confirmed, Wednesday, August 2.

Panji Gumilang was originally questioned as the reported party and then as a suspect on August 1. The examination process was decided to be temporarily suspended at 01.00 WIB.

Thus, the leadership of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School was entrusted to the Bareskrim detention room.

"Last night at 01.00 PG asked for the examination to be stopped first and the person concerned asked for further examination this afternoon," said Djuhandani.

In this case, Panji Gumilang is suspected of having multiple articles. First, Article 14 Paragraph 1 of Law number 1 of 1946 concerning criminal law regulations which carries a penalty of 10 years in prison.

Then, Article 45A paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 2 of Law no. 19 of 2016 concerning amendments and Law number 11 of 2008 concerning ITE with a threat of 6 years in prison.

Finally, Panji Gumilang was also charged with Article 156 A of the Criminal Code. In this article, the penalty is 5 years in prison.
