Irish Caucasians Collision Residents At Sunset Road Kuta To Death Charged With Layered Articles

Denpasar Police ensnared a foreign citizen from Ireland named Matthew Robert Mctruk (36) with multiple articles in the accident case until the victim died at the Sunset Road-Jalan Kunti intersection, Kuta, Badung, Bali.

Denpasar Police Chief Kombes Bambang Yugo Pamungkas said MRM was named a suspect on suspicion of hitting the victim Ni Wayan Madiani until she died after being arrested on Thursday (27/7) afternoon.

Bambang said the suspect was charged with multiple articles for causing an accident and did not provide assistance to the victim after committing a traffic violation.

This Irish foreigner was charged with Article 310 paragraph (4) of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation with a maximum penalty of six years in prison and/or a maximum fine of IDR 12 million.

In addition, Irish foreigners are subject to Article 310 of the LLAJ Law with a maximum prison sentence of three years for not providing assistance after hitting the victim.

Bambang revealed that based on the results of the interrogation from investigators, the accident began after the suspect along with two of his Indonesian friends consumed alcohol in the Seminyak and Legian areas, Kuta.

"The person concerned is the MRM driver who is drunk that he has consumed beer in three locations," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 31.

The accident that resulted in the death of Ni Wayan Madiani occurred on Thursday, April 27, 2023 in the early hours of 01.45 WITA at the Kunti-Sun Set Road intersection, Seminyak, Kuta.

The accident involved three vehicles, namely one Pajero Sport DK 1682 QJ vehicle, Yaris B1526 QJ, one Honda Vario DK6462 QS motorcycle.

At first the vehicle driven by the suspect hit a Yaris car in front of him. It is suspected that because of panic, the driver of the car he had hit, the suspect tried to change the direction of his vehicle, but hit the victim Ni Wayan Madiani who was on a Honda Vario motorcycle.

The victim suffered a serious head impact and eventually died at the scene.

Allegedly due to panic, the Irish foreigner fled from the location with the condition that the rental car was damaged on the front until it stopped at Sanur Beach.

"The person concerned at the time of the accident then found out that one of the victims (died), fled in panic. Also because the driver was approached by a driver from a Yaris vehicle, then fled and then turned around, finally arrived at the Ngurah Rai Pass intersection, to the Sakenang intersection and then entered Sanur Beach," said Bambang Yugo.

Sat arrived at Sanur Beach, because the vehicle could not move in the sand, the three people in the car driven by NMR panicked out of the vehicle, then took an online vehicle and the MRM driver returned to his villa, while two of his friends returned to their respective homes.

After the police found out that the hit-and-run was a foreigner, the Denpasar Police immediately coordinated with the Ngurah Rai Immigration to disentangle the person concerned.

The perpetrator was arrested by the Denpasar Police on Thursday (27/7) on Jalan By Pass Ngurah Rai when he was about to go to I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on an online taxi service.

After being arrested, the Irish resident admitted that he panicked after learning that the victim had died and intended to flee to his country. Until now, the foreigner is still in the custody of the Denpasar Police awaiting further legal proceedings.

"The process is continuing. We have detained MRM drivers at the Denpasar Police," said Denpasar Police Chief.
