Kemarau, Ciliwung River Debit In Katulampa Zero Centimeters Last Month

Water discharge in Katulampa Dam has zero centimeters in the Dry Season (VOI)

BOGOR - Entering the dry season, the water discharge height of the Ciliwung River at Katulampa Dam, Bogor City is at its lowest point, which is zero centimeters. The drought occurs because the rainfall is starting to decrease.

Head of Katulampa Dam Supervisory Andi Sudirman, in the last Ciliwung River discharge reached 3,000 liters per second. Of this amount, 2,500 liters were channeled to Kali Baru irrigation to irrigate 330 Ha agricultural land and the remaining 500 liters were channeled into the main river to protect the river ecosystem.

Andi said, during the rainy season in normal conditions, the river level in Katulampa Dam was around 50 centimeters or with a water discharge of 60,000 liters per second.

Conditions like this are predicted to occur until October 2023. Therefore, Andi hopes that in the near future upstream of the Ciliwung river will soon experience rain so that it can irrigate the 119-kilometer river.

"The peak usually occurs in June, July, August, and returns to normal, usually last October when it rains again," said Andi, Sunday, July 30.

He said, the worst drought had occurred in 2020 as well as 1997, where the water discharge flowing from the upstream of the Ciliwung River was only 1,000 liters of water per second. For this reason, he continues to coordinate with the Meteorology and Climatology Agency (BMKG) and related agencies to anticipate severe drought.

Meanwhile, the Head of West Java Climatology Station, Indra Gustari, stated that the dry season in some areas in West Java that are included in the season zone will end until entering October.

Bogor is also included in the rain area throughout the year. It's just that, continued Indra, the intensity of rain in the dry season is reduced. For this reason, people are also advised to be efficient in using water

"Therefore, we invite people to start adapting for at least the next six months with this situation. One of them is to save money using water," he said.
