Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo highlighted the importance of technological introduction in agriculture as the key to attracting millennials and Gen Z to enter the agricultural sector. At the 2023 Soropadan Agro Festival (SAF) in Temanggung, Ganjar revealed the importance of changing mindset among young people towards the farmer profession.

Ganjar spoke with 5 millennial youths who are active in agriculture, including one who was educated by the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan). According to him, the Ministry of Agriculture has a role in educating and equipping the younger generation to have a career in agriculture.

In his efforts to attract millennials and Gen Z, Ganjar Pranowo underlined the importance of technology transfer in the agricultural world. He stated that technological advances will make the agricultural sector more attractive to young people. Ganjar emphasized that the power transfer of technology must be accelerated, including the use of agricultural tools and machinery (alsintan), digital technology for monitoring, and the application of greenhouse agricultural patterns.

Ganjar also highlighted the economic potential of horticulture as an attractive option for young people who want to have a career in agriculture. As a sector that is not affected by the season, horticulture offers stability and attractive opportunities.

However, Ganjar also acknowledged the challenges in the availability of fertilizers in the country. To overcome this, he encourages the use of organic fertilizers with incentives from the government. In addition, cooperation with other countries in the supply of basic fertilizers is one of the steps taken.

With the right policies and support, Ganjar Pranowo hopes that the agricultural sector will be more attractive to the millennial generation and Gen Z, so as to create strong regeneration of farmers in order to achieve national food sovereignty.
