New Hospital For COVID-19 Patients Prepared At The Surabaya Border

SURABAYA - There will be more hospitals for the handling and care of COVID-19 patients in Surabaya.

It is located on the border of the Surabaya waru roundabout entrance or to be precise in the City of Tomorrow (Cito) Mall area. Even though it is in the mall area, the buildings used for the hospital are close together.

The acting (Plt) Mayor of Surabaya, Whisnu Sakti Buana together with the Head of the Surabaya Health Service, Febria Rachmanita, directly reviewed the operational readiness of the COVID-19 hospital. The review was carried out to ensure that the construction of the COVID-19 hospital, both building and medical principles, was in accordance with the procedure.

"We will see the condition of readiness. We have to look at the situation, both medically and in terms of the principles," Whisnu said, while observing the construction of the COVID-19 hospital, Thursday, January 28.

Moreover, Whisnu revealed, in the last two weeks, the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) room for COVID-19 patients at Surabaya hospitals reached 100 percent. Therefore, he hopes, if this hospital officially operates, it can support the handling of COVID-19 in the City of Heroes. Especially for COVID-19 patients with moderate to severe symptoms.

"Yesterday, in the last 2 weeks our ICU was up to 100 percent. That's why I asked if I opened a hospital, specifically for Covid-19, how many ICUs were there. Actually there were promised (managers) there were 16 (ICUs), but 8 ICUs were ready in the near future. , "said Whisnu.

Whisnu said, based on the exposure of the hospital management, the number of rooms with single beds ready was 105 units. The room capacity in this hospital can still be increased according to future needs. "The capacity was 105 that was presented. But it can go up (up) to 186. With 8 ICUs we can add up to 16 ICUs," he said.

However, his party wants to ensure that both medical readiness and hospital building can be met according to existing procedures. One of the things he noted in this review was the access to and from the hospital so as not to mix with visitors at the mall.

"Earlier we saw that healthy people and sick people were not mixed, I suggest that if you want to open it you have to be completely separate. If the exit of the mall is still slightly in contact with the hospital, if it can be moved it will be moved. So it can be separated between the mall and the hospital. , "said Whisnu.

In principle, Whisnu said, the concept of building a hospital at the border of Surabaya entrance is fairly good. This is because residents from outside who want to seek treatment in Surabaya do not have to enter the city center.

"On the advice of the COVID-19 Task Force, it is good because it is at the border. If someone from outside the city wants to enter, we can accommodate it here. In fact, it was also suggested that if this could be opened, we proposed to the Governor to hold a new hospital in the northern area to accommodate, "explained Whisnu.

Whisnu also explained, based on the records of the Surabaya Health Office the Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) at the Surabaya hospital was previously full. This is because hospitals in Surabaya do not only accommodate Covid-19 patients from within the city. Although currently the ICU BOR capacity in Surabaya hospitals has decreased by 90 percent and non-ICU BOR has decreased by 73 percent.

"So yesterday's overflow was full, 50 percent from out of town. Automatically the (patient) 's family will also enter our city. So, if it can be prevented from the border, it can be even clearer," explained Whisnu.

The management is also optimistic that this Covid-19 hospital can meet the requirements and procedures both medically and in buildings. In fact, the management is targeting this hospital to operate immediately on February 18, 2021.

"We will support the city government, we hope we can work together to support the government to provide this (hospital)," said Director of the Siloam Hospital Group, Dr Anang Prayudi.

Currently, his party admits that they are still using three floors for the needs of Health Service Facilities (Fasyankes) in hospitals. However, if in the future the need for rooms for COVID-19 patients is still needed, he said he would add on the upper floor. Meanwhile, there are 96 health workers currently being prepared.

"Currently, 3 floors are being used. If we mentioned earlier, our Mayor is ready for 186, because it only remains to duplicate the floors above," he concluded.
