JAKARTA - The Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has asked the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta to evaluate the policy of implementing artificial intelligence (AI) technology to reduce congestion in the capital city.

"It needs to be evaluated because the level of congestion in DKI Jakarta has not decreased so far," said DKI DPRD member Gembong Warsono, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 3.

According to him, this needs to be done so that the DKI Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) has a really maximum impact on Jakarta residents.

According to Gembong, an evaluation of the application of AI is needed to compare congestion conditions before and after the implementation of the program.

If it is considered to reduce traffic jams, then the policy can be increased as a permanent regulation to regulate traffic.

However, if not, the Department of Transportation (Dishub) must again innovate and cooperate with relevant agencies to overcome this problem.

Gembong also asked the Transportation Agency to be open with traffic jam data in DKI Jakarta after the program was implemented.

This is done so that the public can find out the success rate of implementing the AI system.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency said that as many as 20 intersections had used AI technology to help reduce congestion.

"So, there are twenty intersections that have implemented the AI principle with an 'intelligent transport system' (smart transportation system) in the 'traffic light' (traffic light)," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) Syafrin Liputo.

According to Syafrin, the application of artificial intelligence is quite influential in monitoring and setting time at traffic light based on information on Google's internal database.

In addition, the application of AI can also strengthen the function of traffic management systems that are run and calculate the actual volume of traffic at the intersection.

So, with this technology, the DKI Transportation Agency can find out the comparison between the road capacity and the traffic density on the road (vc ratio).

"So, the 'traffic light' can'see' which intersection legs are congested, so that at that point there will be more or longer green light priorities," said Syafrin.

Then, with the application of this AI technology, the DKI Transportation Agency also prioritizes public transportation routes, such as TransJakarta.

The 20 locations that already use artificial intelligence technology include Jalan Jembatan 2 Raya-Jalan Tubagus Angke, Jalan Kyai Tapa-Jalan Daan Mogot (Grogol), and Jalan S Parman-Jalan Tomang Raya.

This year, said Syafrin, his party will add another 40 intersections that will be installed with the application of AI as an effort to reduce congestion in DKI Jakarta.
