JAKARTA - The existence of technical cooperation in the infrastructure sector shows the strong bilateral relations between Indonesia and Japan, this was revealed by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono.
"This technical cooperation shows how strong Indonesia-Japan relations are. We are committed to continuing this relationship in the future, one of which is in the implementation of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali on May 18-24, 2024, because we know Japan has successfully organized the 3rd World Water Forum in Kyoto," Basuki said in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Basuki said Indonesia and Japan had collaborated for 65 years since 1958. Starting from technical assistance for volcanic disaster management through robotic dam technology, followed by technical assistance in other fields, such as water resource management, reduction of flood disaster risk, beach conservation, sanitation, and toll roads.
The Indonesian government appreciates the Japanese government for raising the idea of a Global South Cooperation aimed at dealing with various water-related issues, such as disasters, water cycles - nexus foods, and water quality.
In line with this idea, the Indonesian government proposes two very important agendas, namely Bandung Spirit Summit Session and World Lake Day which will be proposed to be included in the UN Resolution.
"We will invite Japan to discuss these two agendas at the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) which will be held on 12-13 October 2023 in Bali as an important milestone towards the 10th World Water Forum 2024 under the political process," Basuki said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 28.
For now, the 10-th World Water Forum regional process consists of three regions, namely Asia Pacific, Mediterranean, and America. While other areas such as Africa are still under discussion.
We really appreciate the participation of the Japan Water Forum (JWF) which will lead the Asia Pacific regional process. We are ready to collaborate with the JWF so that the preparation process runs as smoothly as possible. In addition, we also invite experts from Japan to participate as topic coordinators for the 10th World Water Forum 6 sub-themes, "said Basuki.
