Saut Situmorang Hopes That The 2024 President Will Return The KPK Checks And Balances Function

JATENG - Former Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Saut Situmorang reminded anti-corruption agencies to continue to carry out control functions against state institutions or checks and balances.

This was said by Saut while attending the seminar "The Role of Youth in the Contextualization of Changes in Realizing National Dreams" at the State Islamic University (UIN) Walisongo Semarang, Central Java (Central Java), Friday, June 16,

"It's very different from me in the past, (KPK) cannot be called by the president at any time; so then we do checks and balances," said the former KPK commissioner.

According to him, Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 30 of 2002 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission makes the function of checks and balances not like before.

"With Law Number 19 of 2019, he (KPK) has become part of the Government, not being part of the checks and balances as a whole," he said.

Therefore, Saut hopes that the new president will be able to restore the function of the KPK to control and maintain a balance between other state institutions.

Meanwhile, political observer Rocky Gerung, who was present at the event, also highlighted the optimization of the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership to deal with corruption by corruptors who have not been caught.

With this extension, Rocky said that it was Firli Bahuri and his friends' homework to be able to resolve corruption cases that had not been resolved so far.

He also invited students to think objectively, logically, and based on data in addressing various things, including the political situation. In fact, in choosing future leadership candidates, namely presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election, by filtering out candidates based on the achievements concerned.

"Let's think objectively. The data is there. The leader of the future is filtered based on his own achievements, with honesty, not by manipulating reality," he said, quoted by Antara.

Students and youth also have great strength as thinkers to help solve the nation's problems and solve them.
