PBNU Chairman Gus Yahya: Don't Be Noisy Because Of The Election, We Are Not Fighting To Die About The President

SURABAYA - General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board KH Yahya Cholil Staquf revealed a number of criteria for a figure who can become the next Indonesian president.

"The intelligent, wise, those who fear God, and love their people," said Gus Yahya, as he is called after opening the ASEAN Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue Conference (IIDC) 2023 Socialization activity in Surabaya, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 15.

Regarding the attitude of PBNU in this political year, Gus Yahya reiterated the legacy of a harmonious civilization and tolerance.

"Don't make a fuss, this is just a procedure. We don't want to fight and die about the president," he said.

In the IIDC 2023 agenda, Gus Yahya also said that currently PBNU wants to generate collective memories of the civilization heritage that was once owned by people in the Indo-Pacific area which was successfully consolidated during the Ashoka period.

"So, we offer what we call Ashoka's approach, or Ashoka approach. That's an approach to campaign and consolidate the values of civilization covering a large area in this Indo-Pacific region, which contains a subtance of the values of civilization, is tolerance and harmony," he said.

Because according to him, after that time, there were many disruptions and new influences that partially triggered the disharmoni.

Therefore, the Head of PBNU invites to revive the character, spirit of tolerance and harmony of the people of the Indo-Pacific area that was once owned.

"Let's revive it so that it becomes a cultural consolidation basis so that we then offer it to political actors, political actors, to be used as a political brand, as a political consolidation, towards the birth of a new civilization," he said.
