JAKARTA - Mexican health authorities will closely monitor the development of the health condition of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who was previously announced positive for COVID-19.

The heart problem he was experiencing was due to him being a heavy smoker, until he had a heart attack in 2013. Although, since then he also admitted that he had quit smoking.

"Health professionals are closely monitoring any warning signs that could lead to hospitalization," said Mexican health official Jose Luis Alomia Zegarra.

"Anyone with a health profile (like) President Lopez Obrador will be closely monitored, including 'routine monitoring of vital signs, oxygenation,' added Alomia.

The Ministry of Health also rushed to trace new contacts with President Lopez Obrador. Given that several of his close aides have been infected with COVID-19, but he always says he is in good health.
