Japanese Emperor Naruhito Will Visit Indonesia

JAKARTA - Japanese Emperor Naruhito will visit Indonesia on June 17-23, 2023 during a visit aimed at strengthening friendly relations with Indonesia.

"Through this visit, we hope to strengthen friendly relations with Indonesia," said an official at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 13.

The official hopes that the visit can strengthen relations between the two countries for the better and can be an opportunity for people in the two countries to understand each other, including in terms of culture.

The visit was the first visit made by Emperor Naruhito to Indonesia. During the visit he will be accompanied by Queen Owada Masako.

The visit, which will last for seven days, will include visits to several locations in Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi and Yogyakarta.

Emperor Naruhito is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

Her first visit on June 18 will be carried out at the Integrated Moda Raya Train Depot (MRT), followed by a visit to the Pluit Reservoir Pump Station, Jakarta.

On the following day, Emperor Naruhito will attend the welcoming ceremony at the Bogor Palace and will hold an audience with Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo.

At the Bogor Palace, Emperor Naruhito will attend a lunch organized by President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, followed by a meeting with Indonesians who have ties to Japan in the evening.

The essence of the visit will be on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, followed by a visit to the National Museum.

On the same day, Emperor Naruhito will also visit Darma Persada University and Vocational High School (SMK) Industrial Partner MM2100, a school founded in the MM2100 industrial area managed by Japanese companies in the Bekasi Region.

Emperor Naruhito will also hold an audience with representatives of Japanese nationals in Indonesia and JICA Foreign Cooperation Volunteers in the evening.

On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Emperor Naruhito will arrive in Yogyakarta for a visit to the Sabo Engineering Center and the Palace, followed by a banquet to be held by Sultan Hamengkubuwono X at the Palace of the Yogyakarta Palace.

Next on June 22, 2023, Emperor Naruhito will visit Borobudur Temple and depart for Jakarta in the afternoon. Emperor Naruhito will return to Japan on June 23, 2023.
