Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said he would go to President Joko Widodo to report the results of the study analysis of the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership. "The results of the analysis have been completed. Later I will report it to the President (today) at 14.00," said Mahfud MD at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Friday, June 9. However, Mahfud was reluctant to divulge what considerations he used in analyzing the Constitutional Court's decision. "Yes, it will be told later," he added. Mahfud said that after the results of the study were submitted to Jokowi, he would announce the next steps of the Lawsuit decision Number 112/PUU-XX/2022 regarding the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership. "Yes, according to what was announced. What further steps will be announced later," he said. Previously, last Wednesday, June 7, President Joko Widodo said Mahfud MD conducted a study and review of the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership from four years to five years. "Still in the study and review of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs," said Jokowi at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, Wednesday. Mahfud also mentioned that the study was carried out because there was a different interpretation of the Constitutional Court's decision regarding Lawsuit Number 112/PUU-XX/2022 regarding the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership. "We want to clear it first with the Constitutional Court, because the Constitutional Court's decision is still interpreted differently. We will first explain what it looks like, then we will consider it," Mahfud said in Jakarta, Monday, May 29. The Constitutional Court granted a judicial review lawsuit related to the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership from four years, as regulated in Article 34 of Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the KPK, to five years. The application for a judicial review related to the term of office of the KPK leadership was submitted by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron. "Granted the application in its entirety," said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman reading the verdict at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Thursday, May 25. Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej said there were two opinions regarding the Constitutional Court's decision. First, the Constitutional Court's decision does not apply to the current leadership, but to the term of office of the KPK leadership. Thus, Firli Bahuri and his friends' term of office will still end on December 20, 2023. Second, another view states that the Constitutional Court's decision took effect immediately after it was pronounced and the president had to change the president's decision regarding the term of office of the KPK leadership as a consequence of the decision.
