PALANGKARAYA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Palangkaraya City, Central Kalimantan Province, noted that from January 1 to June 7, 2023, the total area of peatlands burned in its area was 21.07 hectares.

"From early January 2023 to June 7, we recorded that 21.07 hectares of peatlands had been burned. During that period, the team managed to extinguish the fire," said Head of BPBD Palangka Raya City Emi Abriyani, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 9.

"The area of the burning peatlands is the accumulation of 30 land fires. The number of incidents in each sub-district is different from the different area," said Emi.

He explained that during that period the peatland fire occurred in four sub-districts, namely Pahandut (1.50 hectares), Jekan Raya (9 hectares), Sabangau (9.32 hectares), and Bukit Batu (1.25 hectares).

The only part of the Palangkaraya area that has not experienced land fires since early January 2023, according to him, Rakumpit District.

In order to minimize the incidence of forest and land fires during the dry season, BPBD Palangka Raya is aggressively carrying out socialization regarding fire prevention efforts to the community.
