JAKARTA - China's Special Representative for Eurasia Li Hui acknowledged the tough challenges in its efforts to realize negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, which are still involved in armed conflict.

"The ongoing conflict continues to increase. Currently, there are tough challenges to holding negotiations and achieving tangible results," he said, quoting Antara.

However, he considers his steps very important to encourage the creation of consensus which can gradually help resolve conflicts.

According to him, currently no party is closing the door of negotiations.

"We believe that if we really want to stop the war, save human lives, and achieve peace, arms delivery to the battlefield must be stopped. Otherwise, it will only be at risk of continuing to escalate tensions," he said.

Li has just returned from a visit to Ukraine, Poland, France, Germany, Russia, and the headquarters of the European Union, in an effort to find a solution to the ongoing crisis.

"China is still objective and is not in favor of the crisis in Ukraine by actively encouraging peace talks," he stressed.

He claimed China's stance received broad international community support, including from Russia and Ukraine.

The shipment of Li, which is a follow-up to a telephone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has been questioned by various parties.

The senior diplomat served as Chinese Ambassador to Russia in 2009-2019 so his side to Russia was questioned in his efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

"Actually, there are a lot of consensus reached," said Li, responding to the difference in position on the Ukraine issue between China and Europe which he considered a big challenge.
