In The Aftermath Of PMI Placement Fraud, The Minister Of Manpower Asks The Community To Be More Selective In Selective In Choosing Work Information Abroad

JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah asked the public to be more selective in choosing information regarding job vacancies abroad as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

This was conveyed by Ida, reflecting on the incident of fraud in the placement of PMI as an online scammer in the Philippines.

"We hope that this case will not happen again, one of the causes of this case is public ignorance of the PMI placement process according to procedures and the existence of fraudulent job vacancies on social media," he said in an official statement, Sunday, May 28.

"As well as the placement process or departure process carried out by individuals behind closed doors via short messages on WA or other social media," continued Ida.

Furthermore, Ida said, to prevent the occurrence of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) with PMI placement mode, cooperation and collaboration between Ministries/Agencies is needed, as well as the active role of the community by providing information to the Ministry of Manpower.

"The handling of PMI issues must be carried out jointly or integrated between the Central Government, Provincial and Regency/City Governments and the Village Government as mandated by Law Number 18 of 2017," he said.

Ida also asked the public to be aware of advertisements for fraudulent job vacancies that have characteristics, including data and unknown placement company addresses, advertisements on behalf of individuals, requirements to work lightly, and to offer high or fantastic salaries.

In addition, the public must ensure that the placement process is carried out by the Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Company (P3MI) registered with the Ministry of Manpower, and ensure that before leaving abroad to work, it has been registered with the Manpower Office in Regency/City.

Ida also asked the public to clarify information on job opportunities abroad obtained from social media to the Manpower Office or LTSA to find out the truth.

"We from the Ministry of Manpower express our appreciation to the Indonesian Embassy in Manila for moving quickly to repatriate 53 Indonesian citizens (WNI) victims of international scamming in the Philippines," he said.
