JAKARTA - The governments of Indonesia and Malaysia signed two memorandums of understanding (MoU) in the defense industry sector on the sidelines of the 2023 The 16th International Maritimeand Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) exhibition in Langkawi, Malaysia.

Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto witnessed the signing of the MoU between PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) and AIROD Sdn. Bhd. to market and sell the N219 aircraft produced by PTDI together between PTDI and SDE Aerospace Sdn. Bhd. for aerostructure development cooperation.

Prabowo appreciated and supported the cooperation which is expected to lead to the progress of the Indonesian and Malaysian defense industries.

"These two partnerships are expected to encourage the progress of the Indonesian defense industry and have a positive impact on strengthening Indonesia's aerospace ecosystem," Prabowo said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 24.

Meanwhile, PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan said that the collaboration with AIROD is expected to improve the competence of PTDI aerospace in the global aerospace industrial value chain.

"I believe we are all proud to say that N219 also belongs to ASEAN countries as part of Southeast Asia's original aircraft product; and this event marks our important milestone for N219 to enter the global market," Gita said.

He said the MoU between PTDI and SMEA was marking the beginning of the journey towards a stronger and more prosperous future for the two aerostructure business companies.

"I believe our synergy will increase our presence as a world supply chain from the Southeast Asia region to global OEM," Gita said.
