JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo will bring peace issues as well as ASEAN while attending the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday (20/5).

The President conveyed this in a statement to reporters ahead of his departure for Japan from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, Friday, May 19.

"(The issue of peace) will be discussed, because the place is Hiroshima, because it is a symbol of peace," Jokowi said as quoted by ANTARA.

In addition to the issue of peace, the President admitted that he would deliver a number of results from the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuanbajo last week at the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

"Yes, we will also convey several votes in ASEAN in the G7. Maybe those related to (the conflict) in Myanmar, for example," said Jokowi.

In general, President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia will consistently bring the voice of the interests of Global South (developed countries) and collaboration and partnerships in attendance at the G7 Summit.

"It's time for the voices and interests of developing countries to really be listened to by the world," he said.

Jokowi also said that he would hold bilateral meetings with several countries, namely Japan, South Korea, England, France, Australia and others, and would also meet several major Japanese businessmen in a business forum format.

The President said the G7 meeting was a meeting between the heads of G7 member countries and their partners, and would discuss, among others, climate change, food, energy and other things.

Also accompanying the President on the flight to Hiroshima included First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
