CIANJUR - The Cianjur Regency Government, West Java, has prepared a budget of around Rp. 5 billion for the procurement of a public cemetery (TPU) covering an area of 4.4 hectares in the Cianjur District area to answer the lack of land for burials in the Cianjur city area.

Head of the Cianjur Regency Housing and Land Area (Perkimtan), Cepi Rahmat, said that of the 11 TPUs in Cianjur, the condition is now full because the available land has run out.

"Of the 11 TPUs, it has been confirmed that they are full and cannot be used to bury the people who died, this has happened since the last few years. So that the Cianjur Regency Government will prepare new land in the Nagrak Village area, Cianjur District," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 15.

The funds will be prepared from the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) in 2023, amounting to IDR 5 billion for the acquisition and processing of new TPU land with an area of 4.4 billion which is estimated to accommodate 9,417 graves.

The TPU land, he said, could be utilized for 15 years, while currently around 2,000 meters of land has been realized, so the shortage will be resolved in the following year so that the residents' difficulties for the burial area can be resolved.

"Currently, we are still managing 11 TPUs in Cianjur, and focus on maintenance such as TPU Sirnalaya 1, Sirnalaya 2, TPU Cipanas, Sukaresmi, Ciranjang and others," he said.

Since the last three years, residents in Cianjur have had difficulty burying their families who died because of the three existing TPUs, new graves cannot be created because the existing land has run out.

It is not uncommon for residents who die to be buried in one hole with other family members who have died first, so to answer the lack of land for TPU residents hopes that the local government will provide new land.
