The Government Immediately Submits The DIM Of The PPRT Bill To The DPR

JAKARTA - The government has finished discussing the problem inventory list (DIM) of the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT) and will immediately convey it to the DPR.

After the coordination meeting, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said that the Team for the Acceleration of the Formation of the Housework Protection Act, which includes representatives from 10 ministries and institutions, has completed the discussion of the DIM of the PPRT Bill.

"We have held a coordination meeting to accelerate the Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers as a final meeting before being submitted to the DPR for one (or) two days," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 15.

He said the House of Representatives would then discuss the DIM of the PPRT Bill in the legislative session.

The Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah explained that the government also absorbed the aspirations of the National Commission on Violence against Women, National Human Rights Commission, the National Advocacy Network for Domestic Workers (Jala PRT), and labor unions in the discussion of the DIM on the PPRT Bill.

Ida said the government discussed 365 contents of the DIM PPRT Bill, an increase from the previous 238.a

"Why so much? Of course, because after we coordinated between ministries and institutions, also after we listened to the aspirations of the stakeholders, in general after the aspirations were carried out, the entire stakeholders supported the PPRT Law to be immediately discussed and ratified," said Ida.

President Joko Widodo has encouraged the acceleration of the ratification of the PPRT Bill into law.

"To accelerate the stipulation of the PPRT Law, I have ordered the Minister of Law and Human Rights and the Minister of Manpower to immediately coordinate and consult with the DPR and with all stakeholders," he said on February 18, 2023.

The President said that household workers in Indonesia, which amounted to around four million, were not fulfilled by their rights.

Until now, there has been no law specifically regulating the protection of domestic workers in Indonesia.

The PPRT Bill, which has been prepared for years, cannot be passed into law.
