PJ Musra Says Will Submit 3 Names Of Presidential Candidates To Jokowi

JAKARTA - The person in charge of the People's Consultative Assembly (Musra) Budi Arie Setiadi will submit three names of proposals for a presidential candidate (candidate) to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

The three candidates for the presidential candidate are Ganjar Pranowo, General Chairperson of Gerindra Prabowo Subianto, and General Chairperson of Golkar Airlangga Hartarto.

"Mr. Prabowo, Pak Ganjar, and Pak Airlangga. Three names and all of them do have their own advantages," said Budi Arie as quoted by Antara, Sunday, May 14.

Budi Arie revealed that the main agenda of the peak of this prayer room was the provision of direction by Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding where the big ship of Jokowi volunteers would go to the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

He explained that the three names that will be proposed to become presidential candidates are obtained from filtering, netting, and recording the voices of the aspirations of the people from various volunteer organs supporting Jokowi spread throughout Indonesia.

"We will convey it to the President, three names and later let the President decide," said Budi Arie.

As for the name of the vice presidential candidate (cawapres), said Budi Arie, there is the name of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno, as well as Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Arsjad Rasjid.

"There are many names, but we'll just have to wait for the results of the committee to formulate the names and we leave them to Jokowi," he said.

Budi Arie estimates that 30,000 volunteers from all over Indonesia will attend the peak of this prayer room.

However, Budi has not been able to confirm the presence of other figures beside Jokowi in this event.

Meanwhile, Musra was held by 18 volunteer organizations supporting Jokowi to recruit presidential and vice presidential candidates in all provinces throughout Indonesia.

The Musra series has been running for almost a year since Jokowi opened it at the West Java province Musra in Bandung, August 28, 2022.

For information, the registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to open from 19 October 2023 to 25 November 2023.

Based on Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of the nationally valid votes in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that the pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. It could also be that the candidate pairs are promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
