Moeldoko Optimistic That VAT Incentives Accelerate The Development Of Electric Vehicle Ecosystems

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko is optimistic that the government's policy of providing Government-Borrowed Value Added Tax (PPN DTP) incentives for the purchase of four-wheeled electric vehicles or cars and buses will accelerate the development of an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

"Because this incentive will make the electric vehicle industry and market more active," said Moeldoko at the 2023 Periclindo Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS) soft launching event, in Jakarta, Friday, May 5.

Moeldoko emphasized that the provision of VAT incentives is the government's commitment to following the world's development of a clean energy transition by using electric vehicles. Moreover, the world's electric vehicle competition has started to run in Indonesia.

"We have to work hard and follow the world trend that is currently crazy about electric cars. I'm afraid we will be left behind and eventually become the electric vehicle industry market from abroad," he said.

Moeldoko, who is also the General Chair of Periclindo, asked all parties, both the government, the private sector, and industry to continue to move simultaneously to prepare and realize the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. No exception is the mass media which has an important role in providing more detailed explanations and education to the public about electric vehicles.

"People's understanding of electric vehicles is still low. This is where the media acts as a bridge between industry and the community," he said.

"Without the media, this PEVS event is also meaningless," added Moeldoko.

The 2013-2015 TNI Commander also hopes that Periklindo Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS) 2023, which will be held May 17-21 at JIEXPO Kemayoran, can be a trigger and trigger for the realization of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

"The trigger for the community to immediately buy electric vehicles, especially now that there are incentives. And spur the industry to immediately meet the needs of the community. So that there is no gap between supply and demand that can be utilized by foreign industries," he concluded.

For information, the government will raise the issue of raw materials and the electric vehicle ecosystem at the 42nd ASEAN Summit.

The government realizes that the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Asean will affect Indonesia, both its position as a country producing electric vehicles and a country that has raw battery materials.
