DKI Provincial Government Asks Jakarta Residents To Mitigate Fires When Homes Are Left Home

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has asked the public to increase their vigilance and make optimal efforts in mitigating fire disasters in this area, especially houses when left behind for Eid Al-Fitr 2023 homecoming.

"There needs to be an anticipatory effort to avoid things that pose a threat to fires. We urge the public to always be vigilant and apply preventive measures, especially if the house will be left for the holidays or Eid homecoming," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Disgulkarmat), Satriadi Gunawan in a written statement, Tuesday, April 18, confiscated by Antara.

Satriadi said the frequency of fires during Ramadan 1444 H for the period 23 March-17 April 2023 to 02.00 WIB had been recorded up to 124 incidents.

As for the fire incident, the Housing Building (BP) became the object that experienced the most fires with the alleged cause of an electrical short circuit.

In addition, other causes of fires such as gas installation leaks and waste burning activities that can cause other objects to catch fire such as outside installations, public buildings and trade, vehicles, industrial buildings, plants, and others that must be watched out for.

"Therefore, it is very important for us to remain vigilant and take appropriate fire prevention measures. Check the electrical installation periodically and replace it immediately if the cable or electrical device has been removed or damaged," said Satriadi.

Satriadi also explained steps to anticipate fires such as not leaving the stove that was on while cooking and ensuring the stove was dead when leaving the house or during rest time.

Then people need to pay attention to the installation of gas cylinders used for cooking, understand the characteristics of gas leaks such as pungent smell and emitting sounds during installation.

Then, remove the regulator from the gas cylinder, remove the plug from the socket if not used, report the departure of the homecoming to the RT/RW management or security in the home environment and entrust the keys to the house or pet to the trusted person.

The public is also advised to avoid the use of electronic devices that require excessive electricity, avoid the use of stacked plugs and use electrical equipment according to applicable standards (SNI).

"Jakarta residents who need assistance from fire fighting officers (Damkar) can contact Jakarta Alert 112 (free of credit) or come directly to the Gulkarmat Service Sector Post in the nearest area if they experience or see an emergency," he said.
