JAKARTA - Head of Public Relations of the North Sulawesi Police (Sulut) Kombes Jules Abraham Abast reminded residents to always be careful in carrying vehicles in extreme weather conditions at this time with heavy rain and strong winds.

"Beware of slippery roads and fallen trees. If there is no need, you don't have to go out of the house, let alone use a vehicle," Abast said in Manado, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 18.

Due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in a number of areas in North Sulawesi, there were several fallen trees, such as on the Manado-Tomohon road section on Saturday, January 16, at around 23.00 WITA.

Following up on the residents' report that there were two fallen trees, North Tomohon Police picket personnel led by the Head of Iptu Hence Supit police immediately went to the crime scene (TKP) in Tinoor Village, to be precise at the RM Risoma Tinoor complex.

The police chief then coordinated with the National Road Office, Tomohon City BPBD and PLN to carry out a joint evacuation.

Cleaning the roads from fallen trees was also assisted by the SAR Team of the North Sulawesi Police.

The fallen tree incident cut off the traffic flow of vehicles from Manado to Tomohon, and caused power outages due to a broken PLN cable.

The cleaning of the first fallen tree and repair of the electric cables ended on Sunday (17/1) at around 01.45 WITA, while the second tree that fell not far from the first location could be evacuated at 03.00 WITA.

There were no casualties in the incident, and the flow on the road was smooth again.
