JAKARTA - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) has prepared escorts for motorcycle travelers who are desperate to make their homecoming for the 2023 Eid to ensure they arrive safely at their destination.
This was stated by the Director of Security and Safety at Korlantas Polri Brigadier General Ery Nursatari in the FMB9 Discussion with the theme 'Safe Homecoming' which was monitored online in Jakarta, Monday, April 10.
"We hope that we will really anticipate going home in 2023. We have prepared escorts," Ery said as quoted by ANTARA.
According to Ery, motorbike travelers are still a problem and a concern for his party and other related stakeholders because 70 percent of traffic accidents on the highway are motorcycles.
"Because the number of accident fatalities that often occur is caused by two wheels," he said.
However, reflecting on existing experience, he explained, when it was banned there were still people who were desperate to go home using two-wheeled modes of transportation on the grounds that they were used for mobilization while in their hometown.
According to him, the effort being made to prevent motorbike travelers is holding a free homecoming program, not only the travelers but their motorbikes are facilitated to be sent to their hometowns. As in previous years, a special train was provided to transport the motorbikes of travelers.
"These are our efforts to make travelers aware. We always remind and provide massive counseling for travelers who will use two wheels. In fact, we ban it because it is very dangerous,” he explained.
But if it has been banned and urged there are still people who are desperate to go home on motorbikes, Ery said that the National Police have prepared escorts at points that are the main flow of motorbike travelers such as the south route.
"If it is no longer possible to ban it, we arrange it when a large group of motorcycles passes. We will prepare for one or two escorts from several points, we will prepare everything," he said.
With an escort, said Ery, it is hoped that motorbike travelers will be orderly. The police have estimated the movement time of the motorbike travelers so that as soon as there is movement, the officers move to escort them.
"We always remind you to maintain safety and manage your speed to get from one point to the next point," said Ery.
