Speaker Of The DPR Asks The Government To Respond To The Majene Earthquake

JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani asked the government to respond and act quickly after the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Friday, January 15.

"Prioritizing rescue and searching for victims, as well as helping the affected communities and mobilizing regional and national resources for the rescue of victims," said Puan in a written statement to reporters, Friday, January 15.

Emergency response operations, he continued, must be carried out quickly, starting from dealing with vulnerable groups, establishing hospitals in the field, to evacuation places in accordance with health protocols to prevent the occurrence of major diseases in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, the Chairperson of the PDI-P DPP also reminded the central and regional governments to coordinate in anticipation of further disasters, especially in high-risk areas.

"Anticipate and strengthen efforts to prevent disaster management in every area, especially in areas categorized as high risk of disasters so that the impact of disasters can be minimized in order to protect the community and minimize losses and damage if one day a disaster occurs," he said.

Puan also expressed her sorrow for the earthquake disaster. Moreover, this disaster caused casualties and material casualties.

"We are sorry for this disaster, hopefully the victims who die are accepted by Allah's good deeds and the families who are left behind are given courage," he concluded.

The Majene earthquake reportedly killed 8 people. Six hundred more people were injured.

Meanwhile, the damage to buildings in this regency includes 62 damaged houses, 1 health center unit severely damaged, 1 Maluda military office and military damage, power outages, unstable cellular communication and 3 landslides along the Majene - Mamuju axis road.
