Pekanbaru City Government Prepares 8 Temporary Shelters For 152 Rohingya From Aceh

PekanBARU - Pekanbaru City Government has prepared eight buildings as temporary shelters or (community houses) for 152 Rohingya refugees who will be transferred from Aceh.

"The eight buildings are also shelter locations for other refugees who have already come to Pekanbaru," said Head of the Pekanbaru City National and Political Unity Agency (Kesbangpol) Syoffaizal as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 28.

The eight shelter locations, he said, are now inhabited or inhabited by the previous refugees, totaling 791 people.

Syoffaizal mentioned the eight shelters, namely Wisma Indah, Hotel Satria, Wisma D'Cops, Wisma Siak Resort, Wisma Fanel, Rumah Tazkia, Wisma Orkhid, and Cost Nevada.

"There are still around 109 available rooms, there are rooms for family and single rooms. We have calculated that and can still accommodate 152 people," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Immigration Division of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Riau Is Edy Eko Putranto, in yesterday's meeting, said that at the end of 2022 to early 2023 there were 582 Rohingya refugees entering Aceh Province through the waters of Pidie, Aceh Besar, and Southwest Aceh.

"These Rohingya refugees came from Cox Bazaar Bangladesh as a result of the prolonged conflict conditions in Myanmar, and their desire to seek refuge in a safe place," said Eko.

It was also said that the plan to move and place in Pekanbaru City is expected to be carried out in early April 2023 by land.

"The Immigration Office of the Riau Ministry of Law and Human Rights is always ready to carry out escort duties for the transfer of Rohingya refugees from Aceh to Pekanbaru City from the immigration side," he said.
