KKB Continues To Act In Papua, Two TNI-Polri Members Died

JAYAPURA - A joint TNI-Polri team was shot by armed criminal groups (KKB) while securing Tarawih worship in Ilu District, Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua Province, Mountains. As a result, two members of the TNI died.

"Three members were victims but two died," said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo in his statement, Saturday, March 25.

Two members who died were Serda Riswar, who was a member of Koramil 1714-02/Ilu and Bripda Mesak Indey as a member of the Ilu Police.

Serda Riswar is said to have suffered gunshot wounds to the spine and lower chin. Meanwhile, Bripda Mesak Indey was hit in the stomach.

"Brigpol M. Arif Hidayat, who was hit by a gunshot wound to the thigh, was conscious," he said.

Benny continued, the shooting began when a joint TNI-Polri team held security for Tarawih worship at the Al Amaliah Ilu Mosque, on March 25.

Exactly at 20.00 WIT, suddenly a shooting occurred from the front of one of the kiosks around the scene.

"The shooting was carried out by 2 OTK (unknown people) using 1 (one) short-barreled weapon and one (1) long-barreled weapons," said Benny.

Currently, the joint team is hunting down the shooters. Then, some members were deployed to tighten security.

Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol Mathius Fakhiri told Antara, Saturday night, March 25 in Jayapura, confirming an attack when members were securing Tarawih prayers in Ilu.

"Members are still investigating which group the perpetrators of the attack came from," explained Inspector General of Police Fakhiri.
