Bawaslu Reminds Political Parties Not To Covert Campaigns In Ramadan 1444 H

JAKARTA - All election participants are prohibited from taking advantage of the momentum of Ramadan 1444 Hijri to campaign. This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), Rahmat Bagja.

He appealed to all parties, especially political parties (political parties) participating in the 2024 General Election not to hold a number of activities to campaign in the holy month of Ramadan.

"(In the activities held in the month of Ramadan) There should be no invitation (the public to choose certain election participants) in the vote on February 14, 2024," said Bagja.

Previously, a similar appeal was also conveyed by members of the Indonesian Bawaslu Lolly Suhenty in an activity in Jakarta, March 18. Lolly reminded political parties participating in the 2024 General Election not to mix goodness during the month of Ramadan with politics as a covert campaign effort.

"What is not allowed for Bawaslu, the corridor mixes between doing good, goodness and covert campaigns," he said.

Nevertheless, Lolly emphasized that Bawaslu is not in the context of prohibiting political parties participating in the election to do good during the month of Ramadan.

"Bawaslu does not in the context of prohibiting alms. Bawaslu does not in the context of prohibiting people from providing compensation," he said.

However, what is prohibited, said Lolly, is the action as regulated in Election Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning general elections (UU Pemilu). "For example, he promises to provide money or other materials, both during the campaign period, the counting period, and in peace," he said.

This, he said, was because the current stages of the 2024 General Election were still socializing political parties, while the new campaign period would take place on November 28, 2023.

"What political parties participating in the 2024 General Election may do during the month of Ramadan in the midst of this socialization stage is to socialize themselves to the community," he said.
