Arnold Schwarzenegger Uses Conan's Sword To Slam Trump And The Capitol Assailants

JAKARTA - Former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger likens the mob invading the Capitol Building to Nazis. He also called US President Donald Trump a failed leader who "will go down in history as the worst president ever."

Citing CNA, Monday, January 11, 2021, Schwarzenegger's insinuation was contained in a video he uploaded on social media, Sunday, January 10. The video features Republicans saying: Wednesday is Night of Broken Glass here in the United States.

In 1938, Nazis in Germany and Austria destroyed Jewish homes, schools, and businesses. The attack became known as the Kristallnacht or "Night of Broken Glass."

Schwarzenegger, who was born in Austria, also likened the Proud Boys - an American far-right extremist group - to the Nazis. Several Proud Boys leaders were arrested in Washington DC, before and after the riots at the Capitol Building.

"President Trump is trying to overturn the election results and a fair election," Schwarzenegger said in the video. "He's looking for a coup by misleading people with lies," Arnold spoke as he raised the conan sword in his hand.

Schwarzenegger also called Trump a failed leader. He said he was comforted by the fact that Trump's presidency was coming to an end and "will soon be as irrelevant as the old tweet".

In the video, Schwarzenegger also calls for national unity and vows to support US President-elect Joe Biden after a pro-Trump mob raided the US Capitol Building. The attack also led to the temporary suspension of election counting. Members of Congress then come back and certify the results.

Five people were killed, including a Capitol police officer. Dozens of rioters have been arrested and many more are wanted after the attack.

"And for those who think they can overturn the US Constitution, know this: you will never win," said Schwarzenegger.

In the video, which is more than seven and a half minutes long, Schwarzenegger also likens US democracy to the sword he displayed in his early role as Conan the Barbarian. According to him, it will only grow stronger if it is forged.

Schwarzenegger, best known for his role in Terminator, was elected Governor of California in 2003. He was then elected to a full term.

"I am sure, although we are shaken by the recent events, we will appear stronger because we now understand what can be lost," he said, adding that those behind the riots would be detained.
