A group of robbers who robbed school operational assistance (BOS) in Garut, West Java, disguised themselves as state civil servants and looked for potential victims at the bank office.
"He is not an ASN (state civil servant), but he seems to be like an ASN to deposit money into a bank, yes he (the perpetrator) disguised himself (wearing an ASN uniform)," said Garut Police Chief AKBP Rio Wahyu Anggoro during a press conference to reveal the robbery case at the Garut Police Headquarters, West Java, Antara, Tuesday, February 28.
He said the group of BOS money robbers amounting to Rp160 million belonging to the Prima Insani Garut Elementary School was known to be four people. Two people have been arrested and two others who are known to have fled outside Java are being hunted.
Rio said the four robbers had different roles, one of which was pretending to be an ASN, then entered the Garut Bank BJB office to find customers who took large amounts of money.
"One of the people who came in as if it was like a customer, but he was not clear going back and forth," he said.
He conveyed that the robber who disguised himself as ASN was circling in the bank office looking for customers who were considered weak until finally a woman alone brought a large amount of BOS money.
After there was information from inside, said the Police Chief, the perpetrator informed other fellow robbers who were outside the bank to look for customer vehicles that were targeted, then put nails on so that the victim's vehicle tires were rolled.
"He is looking for which customers can be taken, there are women and weakly being targeted," he said.
After conducting reconnaissance at the bank office, the victim was then followed by another perpetrator and in the middle of the road the vehicle's tires were flat. Unknowingly, the victim came out to check the condition of the tires and that's when the perpetrator took action to steal money stored in the car, then fled to the Bandung area.
The money from the robbery was divided into four people, then used by the perpetrators for spree, buying land certificates, and other necessities.
After the robbery incident, the Garut Police team on Monday, February 20, 2023, moved to hunt down the perpetrators until finally two people were arrested in Bandung, namely Akbar Wijaya and Sofyan alias Riyan.
"We have arrested two perpetrators, one on behalf of Akbar Wijaya, I do not use the initials because this is very disturbing. Another one is named Sofyan alias Riyan," he said.
Meanwhile, the identities of the other two perpetrators have been identified, namely Andi and Jagot are still being chased. Both are known to have fled to the Sumatra area and were immediately arrested.
Rio asked the two fugitives to surrender immediately. "Andi and Jagot both have now crossed and I will chase them wherever you hide. I will never stop arresting them," he said.
As a result of his actions, two suspects who have been arrested are charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with the threat of imprisonment for seven years.
