Komnas HAM's Investigation Results Differ Greatly From Munarman: There Were Gunfire Between The Special Laskar And The Police

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) released the results of the investigation of the case of the death of 6 special laskar who guard Rizieq Shihab some time ago at KM 50 Cikampek Toll.

As a result, Komnas HAM discovered the fact that there was shooting between the police and the FPI Special Army. This is obtained from the testimonies of witnesses and evidence gathered.

Commissioner and Head of the Komnas HAM Investigation Team Choirul Anam explained that this incident began with the prosecution of FPI Grand Imam Rizieq Shihab which was held since December 6.

"The death of six FPI paramilitary troops was motivated by the activities of the prosecution of MRS (Muhammad Rizieq Shihab) which was actively started from 6-7 December 2020," said Choirul in an online press conference, Friday, December 8.

At that time, Rizieq's group's car was being followed since exiting the gate of The Nature Mutiara Sentul Housing and entering the North Sentul 2 Toll Gate to the Cikampek Toll Road and exiting the East Karawang Toll. At that time the movement of the motorcade was still normal, although based on testimony from the FPI, there was a maneuver into the group while the police version only occasionally advanced from the left lane of the toll road to ensure that the target was in the procession.

Furthermore, the group that left at the East Karawang Toll Gate was still followed by several vehicles boarded by police officers.

"Then as many as six cars of the MRS group drove first and left the other two escort cars, the silver Toyota Avanza and Chevrolete Spin, to keep the trailing car from getting close to HRS's car and entourage," he said.

In that position, Komnas HAM assessed that the two cars had actually managed to distance themselves and were able to try to escape and be far away. However, the car instead took action to wait until it finally met a police officer car with a license plate number K 9143 EL and 2 (two) other cars, namely B 1278 KJD and B 1739 PWQ.

Furthermore, the two cars containing six people each passed a number of roads in the City of Karawang and were joined by three police officers. They passed a number of roads such as Jalan Raya Klari passing Jalan Raya Pantura Surotokunto, Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Tarumnanegara, Jalan International Karawang Barat before finally re-entering the toll road via the West Karawang Toll Gate.

Not just speeding up, at that time, the two cars carrying the FPI army and three cars belonging to the police were grazed at each other, shooting each other with firearms.

"There has been a chase, caressing and shaking each other, and ended up attacking each other and gunfire between the FPI Special Army car and officers' cars, especially along the West Karawang International road, allegedly up to KM 49 and ending at KM 50 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll," explained Choirul.

After the chase ended at KM 50 Cikampek Toll, two members of the special laskar were found dead. While the other four were still alive and brought alive by police officers.

At that time, police officers claimed to have secured a number of evidences in the form of two homemade guns, brown and white handled revolvers, a sword, sickle, and a sharp wooden stick.

"The four members of the special laskar were then shot dead in the officer's car while on the way from KM 50 and above to Polda Metro Jaya with information only from the police officers that there was first an attempt to fight officers who were threatening personal safety so that firm and measured action was taken," said Choirul.

The results of the Komnas HAM investigation certainly contrasted with the questions submitted by former FPI spokesman Munarman. Where Munarman strongly said there was no shooting at each other and the special laskar did not have weapons. As a result of this incident, Komnas HAM concluded that two different contexts of the incident had occurred. The first is an incident that occurred along West Karawang International Road until it reached KM 49 Cikampek Toll Road and killed two people.

"Meanwhile, in relation to the KM 50 incident and the four people still alive under the control of state officials who were later found dead, this incident is a form of human rights violation," he said.

"The shooting of four people at one time without any other effort being made to prevent more casualties indicates the unlawful killing of four FPI members," added Choirul.
