YOGYAKARTA - The Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta is considering helping with medical expenses for Ahmad Munasir Rafie Pratama (AMRP), a lecturer who changed his return route to the United States (US).

"We have a mechanism for social and health assistance, we must first study whether the illness is dependent or not," said UII Chancellor Fathul Wahid when met at the LLDIKTI Region V Office, Yogyakarta, Monday, February 27, as reported by Antara.

Fathul said, based on the information he obtained, Ahmad Munasir changed the flight route to the US because of treatment.

The results of the diagnosis of the local hospital, said Fathul, stated that Ahmad had health problems.

"After being diagnosed in the hospital there was a health problem and had to be treated," he said.

Fathul was reluctant to explain the lecturer's illness for privacy reasons, including the details of the hospital where Ahmad Munasir was treated.

Until now he has not received any information, whether Ahmad is undergoing hospitalization or outpatient treatment in the US.

"That's a family area that we have to ask for permission to convey because the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) conveys information to the family and to convey it to the public must have permission to the family," he said.

Ahmad, he said, had last communicated directly with UII via electronic mail since the lecturer was discovered by the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in New York on Friday, February 24.

According to Fathul, Ahmad Munasir promised to provide further information regarding his US affairs.

"In written email, we will provide further information and we must wait and appreciate it too," he said.

However, UII has formed a team to verify the alleged disciplinary action of Ahmad Munasir for changing the return route to the US without prior notification to the campus.

"AMRP's actions to divert travel to the United States without notification to UII since February 12, 2023 should be suspected as an disciplinary measure for having left behind the responsibilities that have affected organizational management," Fathul Wahid said on Friday, February 24, as reported by Antara.

Ahmad traveled to Oslo, Norway, on February 4, 2023, in the context of campus duties to participate in global mobility activities at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN).

He was supposed to return on February 12, 2023 via Istanbul, Turkey, on a Turkish Airlines flight and landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Thursday, February 16 at 18.00 WIB.

However, the lecturer reportedly lost contact after last communicating with his wife on Sunday, February 12 at noon, on his way home at Oslo Airport.

Later, Ahmad Munasir was actually detected entering the US through Boston Airport.

From the results of the investigation conducted by the National Police in coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Oslo, Ankara, and the US, there is a number of authentic evidence that Ahmad Munasir entered Boston on February 13, 2023.

According to the police, Ahmad was separated from his entourage in Istanbul because when the group returned to Jakarta, the lecturer did not board the same plane but went out and transited to replace the flight.

The police concluded that the lecturer at UII Yogyakarta changed his return route without informing his colleagues.
