JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Tommy Kurniawan views that identity politics that has the potential to divide the nation must be eliminated so that it can attract generation Z to participate in the 2024 General Election.

"Politics that are identity, political is divided, and also those that are not useful which makes Ill feel generation Z, I think it must be eliminated. So (should) how to increase ideas, ideas and ideas to build the nation and state," said Tommy, quoted from Antara, Saturday, February 25.

A survey from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) conducted in 2022 states that Generation Z and millennials with an age range between 17-39 years will dominate the 2024 General Election, approaching 60 percent.

Tommy assessed that Generation Z tends to view a visionary and great figure who will participate in the 2024 election contestation. Whoever is a candidate in the 2024 election, he hopes for vision and mission as well as ideas or ideas to build an Indonesia that should be put forward.

"I think if they (generation Z) are interested in these ideas and concepts. Especially (if) related to Generation Z, I'm sure they will definitely participate because they have an interest in changing their fate and also their future in the future," he said.

Tommy assessed that the participation of Generation Z in speaking in the political world is currently still minimal. On the other hand, this young group can also be said to be new as voters. However, if there is a change in behavior and mindset, this generation group can encourage Indonesia to a better direction.

Tommy also advised that Generation Z be an intelligent voter who can start from always checking the track records of candidates who will contest the 2024 election, reviewing the visions and ideas offered, to continuing to oversee the election together and avoid practical politics.

"Hopefully Generation Z can be an example for other voters so that they avoid what is called pragmatism politics, practical politics, or money politics," said Tommy.

"I hope they become leaders at their age how to choose that person based on what (oil and gas) is offered so that our democracy can be more mature," he added.

Tommy also reminded that Indonesia will soon enter the peak of the demographic bonus so that prospective leaders in 2024 will certainly be related and determine the future of Generation Z. He also invited Generation Z to actively participate in democratic parties in Indonesia.

"So if you (generation Z) don't make changes now, when will it be? This is the time for Generation Z to appear, it must be able to become a generation that changes the nation and state in the future," concluded Tommy.
