EAST KALIMANTAN - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said five of the 22 stadiums audited by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) were declared severely damaged. The audit was carried out on Jokowi's orders to PUPR some time ago.

"From the results of the audit and evaluation, it was stated that the Ministry of Public Works, five stadiums were heavily damaged (with the recommendation) four stadiums needed to be rehabilitated and one stadium had to be demolished," said Jokowi at Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan (Kaltim), Friday, February 24, quoted from Antara, Friday 24 February.

The audit was carried out on 22 stadiums with a capacity of approximately 20 thousand spectators or more who were at high risk in the implementation of Liga 1, Liga 2, and the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

The implementation of the audit was due to the Kanguruhan Tragedy which killed at least 135 people on October 1, 2022.

Jokowi read out the results of the audit on the sidelines inviting the ranks of 2023-2027 officials to directly inspect the location for the construction of the Indonesian national team training center in the sub-district planning area 1B of the State Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, Friday, February 24.

The President also conveyed that the results of the next audit of the Ministry of Public Works, namely 13 stadiums were declared moderately damaged and needed to be renovated, then four other stadiums had minor damage status and only needed light renovations.

As for the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang Regency, East Java, which was the location of the bloody incident in early October 2022, the President stated that a total rehabilitation would be carried out. Currently, the process is only entering the redesign stage.

"Especially for the Kanjuruhan Stadium, this is just a redesign process for total rehabilitation," said Jokowi.
